4UPDATED: great for a bargain-priced solution
By K. Moynehan
If you find this helpful, please add your vote!I originally bought the $199 Haier 32-inch Haier L32D1120 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black looking for a low-priced option. That TV was actually very good, but had a critical flaw for my purpose: I need to use it with headphones to avoid waking the baby in the next room, and the Haier's speakers don't turn off when the headphones are connected. Amazon's easy returns process put me back in the market for a new set, so I pounced on this Sharp when it was $50 more.I expected a better picture, better connectivity, and a few more features given the brand and higher price. However, I also knew that in a sub-$300 720p set, I couldn't expect to be blown away. All in all, I'm satisfied, but teetering on the edge of returning it, because I really am pretty underwhelmed with the picture quality. I have two other TVs - a 55-inch Panasonic Viera Plasma hooked up via HDMI, and a 46-inch Samsung 1080p LCD hooked up via coaxial cable to a remote Dish box. I hooked up this Sharp via the same coax setup, so my expectations were for a good SD picture, which I know to be far below a true HD signal on a good screen. Here is the rundown:PROS:PriceConnectivity more than adequate - although I only need coax right now, I can foresee using this in a more complex setup in the futureInputs are on the rear with a few on the side (Haier put them all on the bottom, which made no sense)Intuitive menu and easy setupAssembly onto the stand (and disassembly from it) was far easier than my samsung, whose engineers decided to bury the screws in deep caves on the rear housingSpeakers turn off when headphones are connected (and there's a separate option for disabling it permanently if you'd like, which I would recommend if you use it with an A/V receiver)Easily wall-mountable (I recommend monoprice mounts for great value)CONS:underwhelming picture - I tried to optimize picture settings, but it still is nowhere near the SD quality of my Samsung, even allowing some benefit of the doubt on the size and price difference. It's not bad enough that I think I have a defective unit, but just bad enough to irk me.TV does not swivel on the stand - head-scratching omission there by Sharp, but still no big dealMenu - takes up 85% of the screen, right in the center. And unlike on Samsung, there is no way to move it, or make it translucent. That makes it tricky to adjust video settings while trying to see the effect of your changesSo although I know I'm comparing two high-end 1080p sets to a budget 720p, I do have a pretty close comparison with two sets receiving the same standard definition signal. I will keep it because it's not a terrible picture, but it will probably bug me for a while. If I were to do it over, I'd probably wait for another lightning deal (or the more rare Vizio deal on woot).UPDATE:I suffered through 20 minutes of making small adjustments, then exiting out of the menu so I could see the effect, and repeating this process. I was able to get some adjustments done while pausing the show when a face, some colorful item, and some black areas were at the edge of the screen (so I could see something meaningful while the menu blocked the rest of the screen). I now have better skin tones and a less hazy picture. Still not quite the samsung standard def picture, but it's not supposed to be at this price. I'm now totally satisfied at the price I paid. The product itself is a four-star product, but offers five-star value at $250. I now recommend it.UPDATE:In response to a request, here are my settings. Your results will vary based on ambient lighting, preferences, etc, but these work for me.Backlight 67Brightness 45Contrast 49Saturation 71Hue -1Sharpness 13Color Temp: R 125 G 127 B 125

5Great HD TV, great price. I dont know why a few people complained about this TV
By SHvar
I bought this TV on a 24 hour sale, fast free delivery, TV looks great, sounds great, works great. Originally hooked it up to my FIOS with the coax cable until I got my HDMI cables. The picture is very good, better than I expected, and better than many other HD TVs I checked out. When I hooked up the HDMI cable and finally figured out the last settings I was amazed by the picture and sound. I can only imagine that the few who complained about picture quality have something set very wrong. Im impressed, as long as the quality and function are long tived I will keep this TV for a long time. The picture image is very sharp, not cloudy or muddy as a few have said (unless they have bad examples).

5I agree with JAS! Well done! Great picture... now.
By Dane Shepherd
I bought this set recently on a Lightning Deal (though it wasn't THAT deeply discounted). Upon receiving it I was as disappointed as most people reviewing it here and was on the fence about returning it. Colors were unspectacular and washed out. Brightness, even in a dark room, (and here's the key) was bland and unimpressive. After fooling with settings for about 10 minutes I stumbled upon the "Ambient Light Sensor" option, which dynamically dims and brightens the display based upon the the brightness of your environment (see how my dark room actually messed me up?).After disabling this "feature" I was was nearly as impressed with the contrast, brightness, and colors as my 46" Sharp Aquos, 40" Bravia, and 26" Samsung ToC. It is a VERY nice set, with excellent picture, adequate volume and a very reasonable price point. (Yes; "nearly". C'mon, my Aquos was SEVEN TIMES the price at that time.)I am a bit of a electronics-snob, and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable 32" who does not require LED backlighting, or integrated "apps".P.S. Looks AMAZING paired with a PS3 through HDMI!Side note: I understand that all of these electronics manufacturers are competing to be the most "Green", or "Environment Friendly". Everyone wants that yellow sticker on their product that claims "Only costs $0.25 cents a year to operate! *under factory settings). But shipping these things in such a diminished state is probably counter-productive since it is more impactful on the environment to have them shipped back to Amazon in large brown trucks, IMHO. ~ Daneshep

5September 2006 Consumer Reports 26" LCD HDTV Top Rated
By mkb
I've been spending time seriously researching which LCD HDTV I'm going to buy. My choices are between the Sony 26S2000, Panasonic 26LX600, Samsung LN-S2641D, Sharp 26SH20U and Toshiba 26HL66.I'm a Sony fan, owned several of their TVs over the years and been pretty happy. I was leaning that way again - my last TV was a wonderful 23" Sony LCD HDTV that I gave to a close friend because she didn't have a TV and I wanted a slightly larger model with HDMI anyway. I know most people now pass over the 26" and go for the 32" but the smaller size suits my small living room which I don't want to make a screening room! However the recent Consumer Reports (that I personally respect a lot in the absence of any other thorough independent comparative study I can get my hands on) on the new crop of LCD HDTVs put my Sony preference on hold because the Toshiba is TOP RATED in both the 26" and 32" categories. I spent some time looking at these models over the weekend and my decision is almost made. The Toshiba picture looks great - better than the Sony (though it's hard to tell in a TV store where everything is on an HD feed). So with Consumer Reports ratings and analysis placing the Toshiba ahead by 3 points overall, actual design and price comes more into play - and I have to hand it to the Toshiba! The Sony looks pretty dull and a bit too plastic (I know they all are made of the stuff!) whereas the Toshiba ironically looks pretty cool because it seems to have taken it's styling cues from Sony's highly desirable XBR line! BTWI didn't include the XBR in my quest because it's much more than I can afford - though of course I lust after it. But for some $300 less, the Toshiba may well prove to be an excellent top rated XBR substitute. In fact it's the least expensive of all the other models I mentioned in this review.

3Not as great as stated in various reviews but good
By CURTAIN CALL
In regards to the previous reviewer's comments, I noticed the same problem. Our tvs must have come from the same "defective" batch. Light leaks from the bottom left center of the screen when watching wide screen (16x9) movies. The light emanates upwards from the bottom of the screen, above the tv shell, and shines like a small spotlight on the black bar. I thought is was just light being reflected from the light on the ceiling in my room. Unfortunately, it wasn't a reflection. Then I hoped it would eventually just go away. It hasn't. In regards to the Toshiba 26HL66, I can't knock it or brag about it. I will only offer you my experience. Let's start with the exterior. It's nicely designed, and just as sharp as Sony's high end XBR1 model. Although I've always been a Sony devotee, I purchased this tv because it performed better with fast motion than all other lcd hdtvs I looked at, and also because the color was excellent and produced a sharp image. Anyways, I went to Best Buy, Sears, Circuit City, K-Mart, Target, and Ken Cranes, to see for myself the pros and cons I've read about lcd hdtvs. The main con has been that lcd tvs can't handle fast motion, such as a football game or quick camera movement. Call it what you want, blurring, pixelation, or ghosting. This is definitely true. Lcd tv technology has not yet been perfected. Remember, this technology, not too long ago, introduced lcd computer monitors to the market. When it comes to handling fast motion, the Toshiba Regza lcd beats them all, including Sony's high end XBR1 line. I must have seen every 2006 lcd model on the market. Toshiba was the only manufacturer that stood out above the rest when it came to fast motion. I'll give this tv's response to fast motion a B+. Very good but not perfect as would be viewed on a crt tv. The sound quality is very good in a bedroom setting, which is where I have this tv. There are five viewing modes: natural, theater wide (1, 2, 3), and full screen. In standard definition (local channels), the natural mode produces an image of 17 (L) x 13 (H). It fills the screen from top to bottom with black bars on the sides. The three theater wide modes and full screen mode fill the whole screen. But only natural, full, and theater wide 1 modes show the whole image. Theater wide 2 and 3 modes zoom in, so you lose a little of the original image. I prefer theater wide mode 1. You get a nice full screen without image distortion. The image is slightly better in natural mode but it defeats the purpose of the tv's 26" screen size. It's nice to have choices. The remote control configuration is ok. I don't like the fact that the channel "enter" button isn't located near the numbers. It may take a few days to get a hang of all the buttons. They could have left a few off. But once you know the functions of all the buttons, navigating through the on-screen menus is simple. Unfortunately, now comes the cons. Toshiba doesn't offer a 1/8" stereo headphone input jack. I can live without this feature, but it would be nice, especially, since I've used headphones on my prior tv. Several other manufacturers lcds feature a headphone jack. Overall, standard definition tv (local channels) come in fair. Sharpness is disappointing, which basically means the image is grainy. However, some local programs come in better than others. I expected local channel viewing to be inferior to what I was seeing on my 1996 Sony 20" crt tv, which was sharpness and true colors. It is factual that local channels produces an inferior picture on lcd tvs, as compared to an analog crt tv. Regardless what the lcd tv is connected to, whether it be a cable box, satellite receiver, or a coaxial cable drop, it won't make a significant improvement to local channel viewing. Note that I am talking about local channels, not hd channels. Basic cable channels do come in better, with channels such as CNN, MTV, and ESPN standing out. I don't have premium digital channels. Another drawback that I read about was that vcr playback doesn't look very thrilling on an lcd tv. I didn't hook up a vcr, but I believe the reviews. You would expect everything to improve with hdtv. In fact, it is the opposite. However, understand that it is not the hd technolgy that fails. It's the lcd technology that downgrades all viewing, with the exception of the few channels or shows that provide an hd signal. So if you're watching vhs tapes, store purchased dvd movies, local & cable channels, expect a downgrade, not an improvement with an lcd tv. Hdtv (high definition television) is only worthwhile when you're watching programming in hd. So if you have an analog tv, you may want to wait before jumping at buying a sleek lcd hdtv at a premium price. Perfection for hdtv may come when all channels switch to hd rather than the present analog signal. You may not be happy with your purchase until then. So if you have a bulky analog crt tv that puts out a great image like my ten year old 20" Sony, you may want to reconsider purchasing an hdtv at a premium price but not yet a premium product. As the market share for lcd tvs continues to increase and the problematic plasma tvs are phased out, expect significant gains in lcd performance in the next five years. I'm sorry I can't tell you how high definition looks on this tv. None of the local channels in Los Angeles have switched to an hd signal. Only a few select local and basic cable programs are carried in hd. I'm not sure how many of the premium cable channels carry hd, but I'm sure there aren't many. I guess we'll now have to wait until 2009 until our government makes the earthquake-like switch to hdtv, or is it 2011, 2012, 2014, 2020, 2050, 2060.....

5CR is Correct, this is a great LCD for both SD and HD
By P. Rudy
I needed a good LCD panel for the kitchen. I had bought the Sharp Aquous and found it the worst flat panel I had seen. The motion artifacts were horrible on the Sharp. The PQ on this set is great. NO motion artifacts, very good black levels, easy to adjust. The SD from cable is very good and easily watchable. No, its not HD like, but one of the best SD i have seen. Using the component 720p is excellent. I fed it signal from my 1080i sat dish and the PQ jumped out, 3D vividness.Loads of inputs, including one HDMI. Even a digital audio output.Based on all the reviews, this one got the highest for 26". Amazon had a great price and shipped the next day. Arrived in perfect condition.Yes, there are cheaper 26" LCD sets out there. For the $100 difference, i was glad to have paid it and get a great panel.I wish the set was 1080, but i have not seen any 1080 sets in 26". and to be honest, not sure if it would matter in PQ with this size screen. The set also has a fixed power cord. I wish it had a detachable one. Sound is good, not great. But no small sets have great sound. But the sound is very listenable for kitchen or bedroom use.I would not hesitate to recommend this set to someone that wanted a quality LCD for a kitchen, bedroom, etc. You will enjoy the PQ.

5Well balanced and well worth it
By S. Phibber McGee
I did considerable research before buying this TV. I had a wish list of features that the wife and I had come up with plus constraints on my budget and the physical size of the TV due to existing space within our entertainment center which was of the pre wide screen era. While we had to compromise on several of our wish list features ( Internet connectivity to access things like Pandora most notably) the items we did not get seemed to be pretty much standard across the 32" size selection and apparently only available in the region of 42" and above.I had occasion to visit LG's website to attempt to determine info that was not shown in the Amazon description and was very pleased with the support LG offers even in just looking at their TV pre-buy. I had a real time chat with one of their CSRs who was able to get me the info I was looking for immediately and make several alternate suggestions. The longest portion of my set up time was assembling the base and attaching it to the TV. The instructions are extremely clear and set up is a snap.We were initially somewhat dismayed at the sound quality and its apparent loudness as we are not using a surround sound system with it as yet. However after a little exploring of the extensive set up menus I located some sound configuration selections and by changing several of those made a huge improvement in the sound quality. The fact that in order to locate these setting I had to spend a great deal of time exploring and fumbling around as opposed to them being part of the set up wizard that you run the first time out is the reason for my 1 star deduction off the Ease of Set Up category. Our seating arrangement is ideally spaced for a 32" TV and the picture is extremely clear sharp and bright at the recommended distance. We love the auto brightening and dimming feature of the display to match ambient room light. A minor note about this is that the sensor used to monitor the ambient room light is extremely sensitive to the point where a scented tea light votive candle burning more than 15 feet way from the TV and behind the viewing area was driving it nuts attempting to read and compensate for the room lighting until we moved it.In terms of "bang for the buck" and quality we are so pleased with this TV we are strongly considering getting a second one for our home office to do double duty as TV and computer monitor.

4Great TV, but first one had defective sound
By styro
We have a 60" LG plasma in our den, which we love, so when I needed a smaller TV for the home gym, I bought this 32" model. It's got a great picture and it's easy to set up, and with a Roku it was cheaper than similar "internet TVs" that come with the streaming stuff (netflix, hulu, etc) built-in. So for the price and the quality, it was just what we wanted. However, after about 20 minutes of being on, the sound would fizzle once and then intermittently cut out. It was almost like a feedback loop, once it started, the sound would cut out faster and faster until it just stopped working altogether. At first we thought it was the Roku, so we exchanged the Roku box for a new one, but it was still happening, and we tried a jump drive, and some other ideas, but eventually realized that it was the TV sound cutting out. We returned the TV for an exact replacement and have been very happy. But if yours does the weird sound cutting out thing, exchange it for a replacement!

4Our first flat-screen TV
By G. Speer
This is our first flat-screen TV, and we bought it because LG was recommended to us by a young man in a Big Box Store who seemed knowledgeable after we'd asked him about 20 minutes of specific questions. This particular model seemed to have the best combination of features and price we could afford. We've been quite pleased with it. The setup was very easy (once our son came by and helped us move out the gigantic, heavy old-fashioned RCA set we were replacing) and it did well out of the box. Once we upgraded our Dishnetwork setup to HD and hooked it up, the picture quality both in HD and SD (it's fun learning all this new video lingo) seems excellent. The only complaint we would have is that the sound system seems noticeably lower in volume than we would like when we're playing anything on the DVD, DVR or Roku systems. I don't hear any distortion, it just requires turning up louder than I would prefer in order to get adequate volume.Overall, we're quite pleased with the set and especially at the excellent price we got on it through Amazon.

4Good TV, great price
By MdniteEagl
I just bought this unit from Sears for $759, and it's been everything I expect. After reading the review at CNET, it appeared to be the LCD I wanted. I wasn't interested in 1080p because I'm neither a gamer or that overly concerned about seeing every blade of grass during a game. The Vizio VX37L is very adjustable as far as color - you will see reviews about its color settings out of the box (people look like they have terminal sunburn), but the unit is not only fully adjustable for red/green/blue and tint, but has a separate setting for each input (RF coax/antenna, A/V, component, HDMI) so if you like HDMI a little brighter than standard def shows, you can set it that way. You'll also read comments around the internet about the sound quality. If you're an audiophile, just connect a sound system to the audio-out connections. For the integral speakers, the sound improves remarkably if you use an HDMI connection. The 37-inch screen is the perfect swap if you're going from a 32-inch 4:3 unit. The picture height is almost identical, and you gain 7 inches in width to give you the 16:9 image. If you're looking for HD on a budget, and aren't someone who must have maximum resolution, this is a very suitable television at an excellent value.

5People Let's Be Real
By M. Johns
I have heard all the negative about this LCD and I just don't understand. I purchased mine from Sears 700.00. This Vizio is an excellent LCD monitor, now I got more than I had anticipated: Internet use(surf the net and watch a game at the same time w/o twisting my neck); HDTV for sports and a few other channels, who cares about seeing every blade of grass, it is all about what marketing does to get into your head about what is good and not so or likes to think they could control your mind and tell you what is good. Like anything else, one must look at what he/she needs and will you be able to use all of the connections, for instance. I have a fairly new JVC 7.1 reciever, but it does not have the HDMI inputs(I have component), so I can't use it to the fullest capacity, but in time I will move up and do so, but it is not important now. I see people complain about the sound, but they must remember this is not a stereo LCD TV, now if you want that you must make the hook-up to your stereo system to get the full surround sound. (I did this with my CRT, Klipsch 5.2, Vandersteins;bdrm Bose 5.1 KEF and JVCOne other thing to mention, if your equipment doesn't support our ever-so-changing technology, your Vizio can not morph your stereo system into something it isn't.PROS:Sound: is excellent for what is in it (Bose, Klipsch, KEF, Vandersteins or Bang & Olufsen are not inside the Vizio)but they are adaquate to listen to and not hard on the ears.Picture: great and adjustable and again I can't stress this enough, it is as good as your equipment.Remote Control: can do everything needed and can learn to control most if not all of my equipment.Setup: Very easyCons:Now this is a knock on the industry as a whole, the (I) & (P) is frustrating, because years ago they came out with progressive scan DVD players and I had all my family and friends purchase nothing but progressive and now the LCD's and Plasma are 1080i(p). The industry is just greedy, so if you don't have DVD(HDMI input), HD-DVD or Blue Ray, your DVD players w/o HDMI will resort back to 480p just like the CRT.Sound: none if you connect it to your stereo and if not, I've had people on the phone telling me to turn it down, again you get what you pay for.PIP: you can only access it if you have the HDMI, Component, RGB. Why have all the connection if you can only access if you have certain equipment. This is not the Samsung 4665F which I feel is the best on the market (when you can get it for 1800.00). Vizio is a great viewing device for the price. Do research before you purchase and talk to anyone that has the set you are looking to purchase.MJ from CA

5Great TV!! All About Value
By Mike S.
This is BY FAR the best value on the market for LCD HDTVs! I have one in my living room for 6 months now and haven't had a single problem with it. Compliment after compliment from family and friends (and it was cheap!).BTW ANY 37" LCD is max 1080i, the screen is too small for 1080p.Advice: Mount it on the mall with the mount from Vizio.com, very easy & less expensive than anywhere else(about an hour time, one strong person)Hope this is helpful! -Mike NYC

5Knockout TV set
By Just a photog
We replaced an 18 year old 27" CRT set with this one and it's a beauty. I am a TV news cameraman with thirty years in the business so I look at a lot of high end monitors at work. When I went to the store I didn't expect to get a great set in this size and frankly 720P didn't excite me much either. After looking at top tier sets from Sony, LG, Samsung, Toshiba and Mitsubishi I ended up on the Panasonic. I was shocked at how good all the upper tier sets looked but the Panasonic seemed to have a little better detail down in the blacks and seemed to track highly detailed scenes with less digital noise than the others, but it was close accross the board. The off air ATSC tuner is excellent and the set has all the inputs you could reasonably need. I do not intend to plug in an iPod so that wasn't a factor in my choice. My DVD player is older and does not pass audio through the HDMI output so I connected it to the set via the component outs and I feel no need at all to upgrade to a BlueRay player. At this size this is a wonderful combination. My general feeling is that if you watch a lot of HDTV that is live or tape such as sports then Panasonic flat screens just seem to pull a little more quality out of the signal. For movies it is more of a level playing field. This is pretty subjective but it's how I see it.It's amazing how far your money goes in this stuff anymore.

5Works Great, perfectly fits the budget!
By Tony Thiel
We have a 50" Sony SXRD Projection TV in which we paid over $5,000 for including the stand! I love the TV but when your Electricity bill is over $300.00, you need to find ways of cutting down on the utilities. Besides that, this TV needs to have its projection lamp replaced once a year at the cost of over $300! Even at discount places, this lamp is still over $250! Think about replacing that lamp every year. In no time, you would have spent enough to purchase a brand new 40 - 50 inch LCD TV. This Panasonic TV is not only smaller but Star Energy rated, so that should save some on the energy cost.In the bedroom was an old Toshiba 13" CRT type TV and watching movies on it wasn't much fun, so what better time to replace the bedroom TV. Since I'm retired and have a limited income, my budget was under $350 and this fits the budget perfectly.I read somewhere that the size of the TV one should buy should be based on the distance (in inches) from the TV to where you'll be sitting; divided by 2.5. After measuring the distance, I came up with 80", divided by 2.5 and it comes out to 32 inches. A 32" TV would have been perfect but too big for the stand I wanted it to sit on, so I settled for this TV and I'm a happy camper! Besides, it would have been beyond my budget! I do wonder however if this is just another advertising ploy to sell you a larger unit? I think that dividing the distance by 3 works out just as well.In comparison, the Sony has a softer smoother image while the picture on this TV is more vivid and has more contrast. Having worked at a large Electronic Store, I have noticed that most people prefer a brighter more contrasting image when it comes to TVs and monitors. I still prefer the Sony because the picture (to me) is a bit more realistic but that's just a minor complaint. One concern was choosing between a 1080P and 720P monitor. But from what I've been told, it makes a difference on a larger TV (40" or more), but not so much with the smaller screens. I tend to agree with that since it's all about the number of pixels (dots), the distance between each pixel and their size. Have you ever noticed on the old CRT TV's that the smaller the TV, the better the picture quality? That's because (without getting too technical) there's a set number of pixels horizontally and vertically on a CRT, and the smaller and closer the pixels are, the better the image. On the smaller screen size, the pixels are smaller and closer together which makes the images clearer. The number of pixels does make a difference, but only to a certain extent. It depends on the area to be filled. On this size TV, the 720P works very well and you won't see a major difference if it had 1080P.Another concern was whether to purchase a new DVD player. Hooking up an old standard DVD player to an HDTV didn't make any sense. So I had to consider a Blu Ray or an up-converting DVD player. That was an easy decision since we have about 2000 standard DVD's. Replacing all those with the Blu Ray equivalent would get costly (about 10-20 grand), so an up converting DVD player was the obvious choiceSo I purchased the Sony HDMI DVP NS710H up-converting player, and combined with this TV, works great! The picture is stunning and I couldn't be happier. No, it's not quite as good as having Blu Ray, but it does improve the image of a standard DVD considerably. However, the up-conversion only works if you hook it up via an HDMI cable. So please be aware of that! You can hook your PC video output to this T.V. via a 15 pin VGA cable and the image looks fairly decent, but you may have to adjust the Horizontal and the Vertical positions on the TV, and the resolution on your graphics card as well. The native resolution for this T.V. is 1366 x 768, but you can try the different resolutions that your graphics card has to offer and find one to your liking. The process is fairly simple if you have the right cables and a 15 pin VGA output plug on your PC. However some of the newer graphics cards only have DVI outputs, so you will have to get a DVI to VGA converter. Right now, I have this set up to output my Netflix movies to this T.V.(Addendum as of Jan 16, 2010) I now have a Roku HD player for watching Netflix and Amazon movies and it works wonderful. Now I don't have to mess around with flipping back and forth from Computer monitor to the T.V. It was becoming a pain and the PC is unusable while it was being used to stream in the movies. The only thing you should be aware of is that you NEED some kind of a router for it to access the internet and use HDMI cable instead of the provided composite cable for best results. In regards to the poor viewing angle; It IS disturbing that the description of this TV states that the wide 178 degree viewing angle ensures clear images even when viewed from an angle. This is clearly not the case as far as my TV is concerned. Well maybe to their point of view, having a clear image versus a washed out image are two different things. However again, it's a minor complaint because how often are you going to watch it from the sides?Picture Quality (when hooked up to Cable, DSL, Antenna)?Excellent IF you're getting good reception from your provider. But keep in mind that if your reception is poor, this TV will NOT improve the image quality. In the copy world it's referred to as "Garbage In, Garbage Out". That simply means that if you try and copy an illegible image or text, don't expect the copier to suddenly make it clearer and sharper. I am not aware of any TV that has what may be called an "Image Clarifier" but may be possible in the future. But as of now we know that NOT all channels will come in clear, and so this TV will only output what's coming in.Sound Volume? It has plenty for a bedroom. In fact, I had it on a little over halfway and my wife who was in another room downstairs asked me to turn the volume down. However, audio output is only 10 Watts (5W +5W) and the speakers are located underneath: to the left and to the right of the stand. So this TV is meant for a bedroom or a similar environment. It is not meant to be the main TV in a large room connected to a surround sound system. That, I have on my 50" Sony TV. It is also not meant for a noisy environment such as a garage while you're working on your table saw or doing laundry, or in a Kitchen while you're running the garbage disposal or the dishwasher. No, it's not meant to compete with other surrounding noises. So please keep that in mind when making your purchasing decision.Outputting TV sound to a sound system or Speakers: It DOESN'T have a Headphone Jack, and please be aware that this can only be done via an OPTICAL cable. So whatever you're connecting it into must have an OPTICAL (Toslink) input. You can purchase a third party converter such as the GENFEN but be aware that there are two versions (The cheaper model does NOT convert Hi-Def (5-1 Dolby Surround Sound) audio. Another option is to purchase one of the Behringer MS### Speakers which has an Optical input. The SD card viewer: Would have been nicer if they had a USB port instead where you can plug in a flash drive or an SD card reader. There are so many different types and sizes of SD cards that if you don't have the right size, it won't work. As an example, I have a Nikon D200 (uses an SD card) and an Olympus C3040 Camedia Camera (uses a Smartmedia card) and neither one will fit into the TV's card reader. I could purchase the right size SD card, insert it into my SD card reader and transfer pictures into it, but why go through the extra expense and effort? The IPOD Docking Station: I don't have an IPOD, but I'm willing to bet that it's a nifty little feature that a lot of people can use. Lots of people out there with IPODS! I have the less expensive Sandisk for listening to music while I work outside or walk and it serves me well. The Controller: Easy to read with LARGE LEGIBLE buttons for Old tired eyes like mine! Two of my favorites are LAST (to flip back and forth from the last channel watched) and MUTE (for those annoying commercials!)I know that this has been a lenghty review, but I hope that I've given you enough information for you to make an intelligent purchasing decision. I love this TV and would highly recommend it for it's picture quality, stylish look and it wasn't too long ago that you couldn't touch an LCD T.V. like this at this price! AWESOME!

5Fantastic TV
By Sir Spends- a- lot
I just received this TV yesterday and all I can say so far is WOW!!!!It is in our bedroom and looks great (picture and aesthetics wise). The iPod dock is also very nice. The sound is excellent for a small (?) TV.One thing to note. Unless you are a magician, be sure to use long needle nose pliers to get the screws started into the stand/base when attaching it to the TV. Very hard to do with just a screw driver. My only complaint so far is that the sleeper timer does not have a dedicated button on the remote. You have to go into 2 different menu screens to get to it. My way around that was to set each of the 5 timers the TV has so that each one goes off at 11pm Sunday night through Thursday night. This obviously is not an issue if you are using it somewhere other than a bedroom.P.S. - Don't be swayed by the talk about size of your TV and the viewing distance. This 26" is a perfect size for our bedroom (sits on 5 drawer dresser about 12ft from my pillow). The charts for LCD TVs had me at a 42" minimum, which is not true IMHO.

4Great TV for the size and price
By Daniel R. Gresko
Had this TV for about 1 month now. Got at BJs, delivered for under $1200. Set up pretty simple. I used the THX Optimizer which is found on most Lucas DVDs such as any Star Wars. So far, Id say the picture is great. Normal cable is what it is, its ok. But I have HD programming and a PS3, which I use for Blue Ray disks. HD looks great! Ive seen so many posts on the net that say 1080 on a TV less that 42 in is not noticable...well, thats BS. I can see a huge difference and the HD and Blue rays look very nice. Also, with 5ms response time, I have no blurring or ghosting when I game, and I play a lot of fast race games.Pros - Great picture and easy to set up.Cons - Only one so far is the remote needs to be aimed right at the TV or it wont work.If a 40 In TV will fit your needs( I have a 800 SF apt, and this TV is a perfect fit), you cant go wront with this TV.

5Excellent initial impression
By Guillermo Pineda
I've had this 1080p/20000:1/5ms/60Hz LCD for a week and my initial experience is extremely satisfactory. It performs as advertised for HDTV, DVD, & PC (haven't tried gaming yet). Works great in a brigth room. No pixelation in fast scenes. Easy access menus. Plenty of inputs for my needs. Looks great. After offers and coupons, my total price at a local B&M store was $1,356 including the LCD, a sleek Samsung 1080 up-conv. DVD player, a 4-year extended warranty and taxes. Can't complain!Minor cons: Below average sound. Remote control must be carefully aimed at the front of the TV, very narrow angle of operation.Bottom line: If a 40-inch screen size is enough for your viewing needs, this unit holds its own against any other top competitor brands in this category.

5Samsung LN40A530 40-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
By Desertdaddio
Samsung LN40A530 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTVWhat a bargain. I went shopping for a Sony and ended up with this great TV. Everything is there for your needs. I have no reason to connect my laptop, but it will do that if you want. The picture is stunning. I compared this to the more expensive models in both Samsung and Sony, and didn't notice much difference. The sound is exceptional, so I don't run it through my system except for some movies. There are three energy saving modes. I have mine set at medium at night. If you have the setting off, it's brilliantly blinding! You need to have additional lighting on.A great value, great picture (5 ms), and great sound. The manufactures website hasn't caught up with certain stats, so don't rely on everything you read on there site. Why spend more!

5Excellent Quality, Extremely Functional, and Amazing Stylish HDTV
By Kyler Christensen
Whoah, I really did my research on this one (I always do when I make huge investments into things that I plan on owning for a long time) and I am not disappointed!!! For those that don't know, LED TVs are arguably considered the best class of HDTVs (including LCD and plasma along with all of their variants) and this particular model I feel is really the best in its class (considering all things: quality of picture, pricing, features, and, in my humble opinion, size - I really didn't need anything larger than about 40-something inches for my purposes).I'm going to go on a small side note: Some will argue that plasma has the best picture. However, LEDs have better picture at identical resolutions. I checked this model out on the floor at Best Buy along with two other (42") TVs that I was comparing, an LG LCD and a Panasonic plasma. The sales associate swore by plasma and couldn't even tell the obvious difference in contrast between the 42" and this model (the LED one was obviously better). I'm not going to patronize you on the pros and cons of each class of TV (although I could) but, all things considered, LED really is the best overall. Do your homework if you haven't.Anyways, I noticed that some people whined about: 1) the sound, 2) the remote, 3) screen glare, 4) light leakage, or 5) whatever dud/lemon of a TV they got. I'm going to address these points with rebuttals in the following bullet points:-1) In truth the sound is very decent (you're buying a stand-alone HDTV, what did you expect?) and most people may want to purchase a sound bar/system down the road. Plus there are multiple sound options that enhance and isolate individual parts of the sound that matter to you ("Clear Voice" is a good one sometimes).-2) Hey, it's a REMOTE! Come on, people! Seriously though, the remote is intuitive enough and has some cool features (the menus are very simple and a joy to navigate once you get the hang of everything), like button back-lighting that you can toggle on and off with one glow-in-the-dark button. Plus the buttons have a good feel and good travel to them.-3) Unless you keep the windows open and they're facing the TV, this is not really a huge issue at all - especially when the TV is actually ON!-4) Here's where I think that I will acknowledge some peoples' pouting and concern; on the upper and lower right and left corner portions of the screen, and even upper-center (where the light is sourced from), I did notice some faint circular light leakage/blooming spots when watching a movie at night. It is minor but they are there. However, this is only noticed when the following conditions are met: you're watching in a super widescreen letterbox-format picture, it's night-time or the house lights are off, and the movie scene is a really dark one. I'm not certain if this is normal of LEDs or not. Either way, it is very minor, can easily be ignored, and is definitely not worth taking my TV back for. I'm already too happy with it as you might guess.-5) Mine arrived in perfect condition. I recommend a free trial of Amazon Prime. You can get this TV with free standard shipping rates or $4 for overnight shipping in the continental US.-One last initial worry of mine that I wanted to insert into this review is concerning the bezel/frame style. the outer edge is surrounded with an additional clear edge that contains an even smaller and extremely subtle clear red edge. Aesthetics are an important thing for me so looking at this model in the store was a MUST. However, the red edge along with the clear edge was virtually unnoticeable in the store. When you do look closely and see it you will notice how stylish it all really is. The frame is ultra thin, black gloss, and sits on a mostly-glass base. the shaft of the base mount is clear glass so the TV kind of seems like it's floating. I think that that was what the designers were going for.Now on to some of the features that previous reviewers didn't touch on... This TV has really got you covered. There are a multitude of sound and video options in a very intuitive menu interface. I haven't utilized any of the Internet-accessing options yet. My main plan was to hook my laptop up to the HDMI port and do a lot with that. But here is where the TV really shines for me: the HDD USB port. If you have a USB flash drive/external hard drive then you can view photos, play music, and even watch movies straight off of it. Playing movies has no slow-down whatsoever. If you somehow acquire Blu-ray disc movie rips or whatever video file type/extension you have, chances are great that it will play them all with no problem. The TV has played almost every movie file type that I've thrown at it. I love the streamlined menu within the videos. You can't ask for anything better in this aspect. And HD videos all look glorious.Lastly, some people complain about the "soap opera" effect that HDTVs can suffer from. I believe other brands sometimes call this feature "Trumotion", but for this line of TVs Samsung refers to it as "Auto Motion Plus". Thankfully, you have the option to turn this feature off if you'd like or change it to one of five other settings.Well, I'm not sure what else to say.. I didn't need or want a 3D TV yet... But everyone that has come over to our place sees the screen resolution and picture quality and is always immediately impressed. I highly recommend this TV to anyone. At 40 inches, do yourself a favor and get it for the picture quality and unbeatable price for an LED class TV.EDIT: The one other draw for LED HDTVs is the extremely small off-chance for "burn in" if you view the same picture constantly without a change in picture. The manual warns something along the lines of being sure not to view the exact same picture for more than 5% of your total viewing time in any given week. Otherwise, it's a small chance (but possible) that you could get burn in on your TV.(Update as of 6/27/11): The picture quality has always been utterly exceptional and without comparison for this TV. However, I have a very keen eye and will still at times notice the light leaking issue during EXTRA widescreen videos where the light is on the top and bottom borders and is darkest. I think that I am going to continue hanging on to this TV, however, notwithstanding this one issue - although I am currently weighing the matter as it compares to the price and timing for this investment for me now. If I do contact Samsung, I would only want this same model again. Videophiles may just want to keep this light leakage issue in mind for their purchase.

5Auto Motion Plus - the price disparity
By K. Singhasiri
After owning this TV for exactly a month I've finally decided to write a review, you know, after the excitement wears off and what not. Actually I'm still pretty excited about it. My previous set was also a Samsung 26" LCD and upgrading to this one was worthwhile.Since this is a television, I'll comment about the picture first. Out of the box it's very good, after adjusting the settings a bit - excellent. The colors are very vibrant and no problems with viewing angles. I actually like my images to have a bit of contrast to them; I prefer black to be black and not grey. At first I was having a hard time trying to get it right, since my initial reaction was to reduce backlight and gamma, but crank up contrast and brightness. After a while, I finally figured out 'brightness' had the biggest effect. Around 30% was where it really kicks in, but it didn't occur to me to drop it that low. It's all about preference though, and this TV should have enough settings for anybody. Aside from contrast though, I don't see an insane amount of difference between this and a non-LED set... Something I must mention about the settings though, depending on which of the 4 picture presets you're on, certain selections like advanced video settings become unselectable for reasons unknown. Though I pretty much left that setting untouched. Despite that, I really like the fact that settings are saved independently across the 4 presets for EACH input source. So, for example, if you have 4 connections coming in, you can have a total of 16 presets - good stuff. I also tried the PC input through vga and found the picture to be very sharp. Colors are accurate though a bit strong and text is easily readable from a few feet out and this is coming from a practically blind gamer. The audio, I found to be pretty good. The bass isn't going to blow your neighbors away, and it's not going to replace any home theater system, but there is a very capable, customizable equalizer on board which should help a bit. Loudness for this set wasn't a problem for me.Now I must talk about the 120Hz Auto Motion Plus(AMP) dealy as it seems to be the main feature that drives up the cost from lower models. What AMP does for you is, well, readable in the product description, so I'll describe it. AMP made every thing move faster while maintaining picture detail. (more frames in the same amount of time = faster) So, to me, everything looked like either home movies or daytime soaps which, if you can picture them, tend to move faster than most television programs and movies. Despite the bit about daytime soaps, I generally watch movies and sports, and after a few dozen years of watching them in ~24 frames per second (a bit higher for sports), I found the added (double?) frames to seem unnatural. After a few days found myself turning the feature off completely even for sports. Though there's nothing wrong with the quality of the image presented per se, I'd just prefer to see a blue flash go by as opposed to Ironman's actual chest piece go by, for example. And it only really kicks in at what seems like certain intervals, so the inconsistency in framerate got to me as well. I did find a use for AMP while gaming. Everything moves at what seems like 60 fps even when the game is not natively known to. Though, again, it's not 100 percent consistent in high frames (more like 60-80) and certain, very fast moving, games, like racing, cause what seems like screen tearing at the edges. You probably won't notice it (AMP) on games that already run at 60fps, and also it won't work miracles for games with already poor and inconsistent framerates. Overall, it looks fantastic for games, as I didn't give it a second thought about leaving it on, but for everything else I finally decided not to.The main selling point for me was the Connectshare. I was thinking of purchasing a digital media player a while back, but here it's already built-in and it's a very capable one indeed. Though, there's too many to list here, the TV's e-manual actually lists suppurt for a dozen file types spanning several dozen video and audio codecs with bitrates as high as 30 Mbps for certain file types. It's played pretty much every thing I've thrown at it and handled any 'usb device' I've used so far, which includes NTFS formatted sata hard drives with external enclosure, no worries. Though once in a while the audio cuts in and out on my .vob straight rips, and I've yet to test files with very high bitrates since I feel the tradeoff for file size isn't worth it past 7-8 Mbps. Something I must mention about the media player is it does an admirable job of reducing video artifacting from down-conversion, however you're not able to zoom past the actual video while maintaining aspect ratio. In other words it won't crop the black horizontal bars for you on a 4:3 ratio video. You have to do it in the conversion. I found it strange since the option to zoom in is there for all the other video inputs. As for the Smart TV/Samsung App hub, I tried it briefly using the Youtube app under a wired connection(which stalled on the initial install). Videos streamed very quickly and it looked like the the app always plays the highest video quality. Most of the other apps never appealed to me so I found myself quickly deleting them off the TV but this was never a selling point for me anyways, just something to mess around with. As others have mentioned, navigating without a keyboard quickly became a chore. So, hopefully, somewhere along the line, Samsung will separately sell their qwerty remote that's included with their 7000 and up series of TVs otherwise this feature could fade fast. After all that though, I would definitely purchase this TV again if I had to (which I did - the 40" UN40D6000 series) especially at the $700 price-tag offered at the time (thanks to the wacky commodities exchange-like fluctuating price system here). Even though the LED aspect seems to do more for your eco concerns than picture quality and I seldom use the 120Hz Auto motion, I'd rather have more functionality than less. Also, I can afford it. However, for the casual viewer, those on a budget, or old-school movie-goer, 120Hz is overkill. I could go with the UN32D5500 32-Inch and still be happy. As always, see it for yourself.

5Outstanding Picture Clarity and Color
By Product Reviewer
The Samsung UN46D6000 is an excellent led HDTV set that is the best value priced alternative to a 3D model. In fact, the outstanding picture clarity and color of this LED set almost seems 3D at times and these are its most striking features. Other pluses are the light weight, thin profile and elegant overall design along with low power usage. Although, I would suggest that individual sound control features for bass, treble and balance would be a definite improvement.
