5I could slap Samsung on the front of this & you couldn't tell the difference
By nikecmh
Hit the lottery unlike the negative reviewers here who lost said lottery and rate Amazon and not the product. Got the TV delivered 20 min ago. Here's my short but VERIFIED review:1. TV has 0 branding on the front. I could slap a Samsung sticker on it if I wanted to.2. The TV actually has the power outlet pointed downwards which I wondered why my last 5 TV's decided to still have it pointing out the back.3. The remote looks bad but works. Who cares.4. The sound isn't that bad like everyone complains about. No vibration like someone else said. Plus, anyone who buys a 40"+ tv and plans on using built in sound vs a home theater is crazy. Unless it's a tv that is going in a play room.5. Picture looks fine to me.6. The stand seems sturdy, the screws that go into it though strip easy so be careful =)7. HDMI inputs are on the side of the tv and are tight. Meaning, a normal HDMI head fits flush up against the tv. So if you have a cable with the big black ferrite connector close to the top, it's going to be tight.8. The TV's interface menu is quick and is laid out well if that matters. For my first off brand tv, this was a steal and I am very happy with it.

4Bought as a secondary TV, but was surprised to decide.....
By hangman
I bought this TV with the thought that I would make it my secondary TV. I have a 42" Panasonic Plasma (4 years old) in the living room, still so much better of a picture than most of the LCD's. So I was surprised when I turned it on expecting lots of motion blur because of it's 60Hz refresh and watching NFL it was not an issue, then watching some basketball again no problems, then golf again no problems. So I switched to other non sports programs again good picture. Keep in mind I still feel that the picture quality and colors are better on my plasma but it was far better than expected. Being that my plasma is in a room with 7 windows it gets lots of glare so for the time being I've decided to move the plasma to a secondary room and make this 50" my main TV.I have a nice surround sound set up so I never bothered turning on the TV to listen. I would probably say it sucks but that's just because I've yet to hear a thin TV have good sound. Thus I have surround sound. The only complaint I have is that the bolts on the back for wall mounting appear to be insufficient, but it will hold fine I just would have liked to see something a little bigger.

5amazing!!!
By jennifer richardson
For 529.00 this 50' was a steal!!! I hooked it up and the picture was just a beautiful as my 47' Vizio....not only that but we were able to hook our surround sound system up through our cable box and it was perfect....it arrived surprisingly quick....I have to say this is by far the best purchase I have made online, ever...I would recommend this to any & everyone looking to get a lot of TV for a lil bit of money...not only that, but with the free super saver shipping, I saved an additional 50$ plus I saved abother 30-40$ on taxes I would have paid in store.....it has 3 HDMI so we were able to hook up our gaming systems....you will not be disappointed if you purchase this, it also comes with a limited 90 day manufacturers warranty......so you have nothing to lose......buy it and ENJOY!!!

5Big, beautiful, affordable! Highly Recommended!
By Joshua Jones
The Sharp LC-60E77UN is a dream come true. Excellent image quality, superb black levels, smooth motion, and a true home theator experience.I have been looking around at replacing my two year old Sharp Aquos 42" lcd for the past few months. It was a great tv but I recently moved to a bigger house and needed a bigger tv in my huge great room. I used the 42" for a variety of things: computer monitor, bluray's, dvd's, games, and normal tv viewing. I looked at plasma's, LED LCD's, DLP's, and CCFL LCD's. I knew I wanted at least a 55" screen so I could read internet sized font from back on my couch (8-10' away) but still keep the tv set on 1080p. I also love the immersive effect from a big screen. I looked for deep blacks, good motion, viewing angles, and an excellent contrast ratio.First I looked at plasma's and I finally ended up buying one after finding a great price on a 65" panny S1. But after reading about the still prevalent burn-in issues and huge (780w!) power requirements I decided to return it and stick with an LCD. I don't need to see what my electric bill would be like after running a hairdryer for 4-6 hours a day.I then looked at the new LED tv's from Vizio, Samsung, Sharp, and Sony. They had great contrast ratios and deep blacks but were priced much higher than the traditional CCFL tv's. The other problem was that they stopped at 55" and I would preferred to go bigger.I got sidetracked by some of the DLP tv's huge sizes at low prices, and while they have improved a ton over the years there are still several inherent problems with that style of tv that I could not put up with. Then I looked at some of the traditional CCFL backlit tv's. While most manufacturers only went up to a 55" in size, sharp recently came out with a new 60" and 65" at a decent price. Keep in mind that while the difference between a 55" and 60" and likewise, a 60" and a 65" doesn't sound like a lot, the total opposite is true. An extra 5" added along the diagonal at these sizes adds a TON more area. For instance, a 60" tv has over DOUBLE the area of a 42". A 60" is a very noticeable step up from a 55" in size. While I ended up settling on the 60" version of this TV I did consider the 65", but just couldn't justify the extra 800-1000$ sharp wants for it. Also at sizes that big 1080p starts to break down unless you sit far away from the tv.Since sharp had the price of this 60" LCD right around what some of the 55" LED tv's were going for I spent a lot of time deciding between the two. The store that I was at played the classic trick of setting the more expensive LED tv's to a more colorful, bright setting to somehow make them look better than their cheaper traditionally backlit counterparts. After messing around with some of the other 55" CCFL backlit tv's I couldn't quite get them looking as good as the LED versions. Then I messed around with this 60" sharp, totally different ball game. After putting the backlight back down to more common levels, turning the brightness down a notch, upping the color, and upping the contrast a touch, I got this guy to look just as good (if not better!) than any of the 55" LED's, (even the samsung 8-series). I don't know what sharp did with this panel but the black levels were very deep, and the whites were still sparkly white. Maybe it has something to do with the new Kameyama plant that these are built at. The black levels were on par with the panny S1 plasma, but the colors and bright scenes were so much more vivid. Many manufacturers use 8-bit panels to save on some cost, but this is one of the only 10-bit panel's available in this size. Color experts can explain better the technical differences between 8-bit and 10-bit color, but to my eyes it just means more deep, rich colors.Another thing I liked about this panel was that it has a semi-gloss screen. Unlike my older sharp, which has a full matte screen that washes out more at wider viewing angles, this screen keep's its deep black's throughout a much greater viewing angle. I will admit though that the plasma's had noticablely better viewing angle's than any LCD I looked at, but it wasn't worth all the drawback's of plasmas. I do get some glare off the screen in the day, but it is partially diffused and isn't very distracting. This tv really shines at night though. As part of testing, I also hooked up a laptop through HDMI into the tv. After messing around with the window's resolution output I got the screen stable at full 1080p. I stood back 10 feet, and was still able to read google new's, the weather forecast, facebook, and all my other internet sites. A slight bump up in windows DPI and even people with less than perfect eye sight could clearly read the text. I really don't understand why people pay hundreds extra for tv's with internet connectivity when a $300 computer can be hooked up to this tv and run bluray's, go to ANY internet site, and stream music and video. While almost all the new LCD's are coming out with LED backlighting, a lot of people don't realize that CCFL backlights have been evolving over the 10+ years they have been out. Remember back 6 year's ago how horrible the black levels were on LCD's? Well those tv's were backlit with CCFL, just like this tv is today. The only difference? Sharp has virtually perfected it with this new model. Smooth, even, dark, blacks that are easily on par with any LED tv I've seen. Now I do think LED is the superior technology and will noticablely surpass CCFL in the next 2-3 years, but for now they are on their first and second generations, and they still have some bugs to be worked out. CCFL blacklighting is tried and true, and is on its tenth or more generation. I do have to admit, LED is a great marketing scheme right now to make people justify the inflated prices they are asking for them, when in truth the CCFL backlighting (at least on this screen) is at least as good.Another thing this screen does well is it's motion controls. Sharp's 120hz technology supposedly helps with motion, something that personally I've never really had a problem with on any modern LCD. The film modes are useful for converting a 1080p/24hz bluray signal into a 60hz one, but I prefer to leave it off and have a more "natural" movie viewing experience. I watched Underworld on bluray on this thing the other night, and now I don't think I'll ever go back to the movie theater again. Immersive, beautiful, and all in my own home.Another thing people think is going to be big is 3D. If you are one the fence about whether to wait for this to come out, or buy a big screen now let me give you a few pointers. Remember when HD first came out? Yes 10 years ago? How come after 10 years, over half the channels are still not in HD? HD programming requires a ton of bandwidth, and 3D will double the amount needed. Not to mention that when these 3D screens come out they will be extremely expensive, and content will be extremely limited. I don't see 3D coming anywhere near mainstream for at least 5 years. If you want to wait that long and see if it's going to catch on, be my guest, but in the mean time I'll be enjoying my blurays infront of this big gorgeous screen. If you always wait for the next big thing, you will always be waiting. Some people don't like the Gold bezel on this screen, and at first I didn't either. The pictures online really glorify it, but the truth is that in real life it is very faint and hardly noticeable. I still wish it was black but for all the tv's strengths I can deal with this minor setback. When shopping for this TV I was surprised by the lack of reviews. I took the jump anyway and I'm really glad I did. I got exactly what I wanted. A HUGE screen with rich colors, smooth motion, extremely deep black levels, lots of inputs, no dead pixels, and the flexibility to do internet surfing from back on my couch. My advice if you are considering a 55" LED or any other tv this size range. Don't just assume that because it's an LED tv that it's automatically better. If I just blindly went for the LED screens, I would have missed out on a 5" bigger screen with picture quality that easily rivals any LED LCD I've seen, and I would have paid would more for it! Don't buy into the marketing hype. Big thumbs up for sharp for making an awesome, affordable screen!

5***UPDATE***~*~*~GREAT PICTURE QUALITY, BRIGHT COLORS, HUGE~*~*~
By Mommy of Cuties M & Z
******Update is at the bottom*******My husband and I decided that instead of getting eachother Xmas presents, we would buy a new TV. We had a 36" tube TV that took up a lot of space & was beyond heavy. Thus, the search began for a flat panel TV. At first we started looking at 46-52" and then that went to 55". We had already decided that we didn't want a Plasma but an LCD or LED.Based on reviews we were first interested in the Sony Bravio, it seemed like the best reviews for what we wanted and for a good price. Then we took a trip to Best Buy. They had 6 55" LCD TV's on display and actually all of them looked pretty nice. The Sony Bravio and 1 other(can't remember) had the best looking pictures in our opinion. We were not yet ready to purchase anything and went to Sams Club to check out their TV's.That is where we saw this Big Boy, 60" of Beautiful TV. It WAS bigger than all the rest, it DID outshine all other TV's...except 1. There was a 55" Visio True LED and that had a comparable picture to this one in my opinion, my husband thought it was slightly better(and very slightly), I'm sure because it was LED. The Sharp was a little over 2K and the Visio was a little under 2K.So we were torn on what to do. We decided to go ahead and get this 60" Big Boy. Although we thought the Visio was the newer technology with the LED, this one still had a Beautiful picture and was better to us than any of the other TV's. Also we've had many Sharp Electronics and have always been pleased with them.We actually don't have cable, we have regular TV & watch regular DVD's. All I can say is AWESOME!! The colors of this TV are amazing & so colorful, my 1 year old twins LOVE watching cartoons on it. We are completely happy with our TV.When making such a big/expensive purchase, I really recommend going to the store & checking them out in person. But if you can't do that or you are buying this as a gift for someone and having it shipped, I guarantee you they will be pleased with this. Especially for a Man, telling his friends he has a 60" TV is a VERY proud moment! My husband couldn't wait to go to work and tell all his friends.Had we wanted a little "smaller" of a TV, we would have gotten the Visio LED. But if you are wanting a real Big Boy, you won't be dissapointed with this. I think the sound of the TV is fine, not sure how it would be with movies because we have surround sound for that.We hung our TV on the wall, we didn't want an entertainment center because we have 1 year old twins who love to climb on things like that. The best deal we found for mounting it on the wall is at IKEA. If you are in the TV stand/wall area, ask one of their sales people what will hold a 60" TV. Originally we were going to get this wood thing to mount on the wall but they only had 1 thing big enough for a 60" TV so that is what we got. We also got a shelf from there that we attached to the wall above the TV to put the surround sound/DVD player. Everything is out of reach of our curious babies! Although we still need to get something to conceal the cords.Since we have 1 year old twins, we don't get to the movies and now that we have this AWESOME, HUGE TV, I don't see us going to the theatre anytime soon. I'd much rather lay on my comfy couch, snuggled with a blanket, eat as many snacks or drinks as I want w/out it costing me a fortune & going to the potty w/out missing anything and did I mention AWESOME, HUGE TV?? (actually this may be a selling point for someone, if you need to convince your significant other to get this TV, just tell them how much money you'll save on gas, movie tickets, movie snacks, etc)********UPDATE*********We've had our TV for a little over 3 months now so I'll give a little update. We still LOVE it and are extremely happy w/our TV. Everyone who sees our TV Loves it and anyone who has a big screen compares it to theirs and always says that ours has a better picture, better colors, is bigger and in most cases cost less than theirs did and they wish this is what they had gotten. My husband was asked several times from buddies at work to have a Super Bowl party here since we had the biggest TV and they'd heard it had a great picture but my girls were sick at the time so we didn't get to do that. My husband and I watched it(even though I don't like football) and it was AWESOME!!So we've watched just about every possible thing on our TV: sports, action movies, regular movies, LOTS of cartoons both on PBS & DVD and Everything we have watched has been fantastic. The newest Ice Age DVD was the most colorful thing I'd ever watched on TV, my girls Loved it(so did we). Our DVD player is an up-converting one...I didn't even know there was such a thing but my husband said it turns DVD's into a higher resolution or something like that. So if you're getting a big screen I recommend getting an up-converting DVD player or a Blue Ray. All our DVD's are regular & from Redbox are regular or we would have gotten a blue ray player. The only problem, which really isn't even a problem that we've had with this TV is that a couple times we have turned it on and it wouldn't do anything, it was just a blank screen so we had to unplug then plug it back it and it immediately worked. And something that might bug some people but doesn't bother us, when we are flipping through the channels it is slow, it isn't just like click, click, click, it is more like click.pause..click..pause..click. And we don't have cable, this is just regular TV so it might not even do that with cable. Also, I've been doing the Wii Fit on this and it is even more fun on this than it was on our 36" TV, this TV makes it more 'real', which makes me more motivated to work out.We LOVE this TV : )

2Avoid if you use ATT uVerse HD
By Mark Karber
I viewed the 60" Aquos at a local store, and found it here for about the same price with no tax. I had it shipped to me, which took about 10 days. The first time I hooked it up, it seemed ok. The picture was middling range. The blacks could be deeper, the contrast better, and the screen was more reflective than my other Samsung LCD but it was a bargain at the price and I was satisfied enough at that price point. Then I turned the TV off. The next day I turned the TV on, it immediately began flashing between 480P mode, and 1080P mode. So, it was switching between HD and non-HD modes. I also noticed the blue HD light on my uVerse box was flashing, so I assumed it was a weird issue with the box. I reset the box, and everything was fine...until the nexst time I turned the TV on.Later, I came home and noticed the blue HD light flashing again even before I turned the TV on. Thus began a journey. In order to watch the TV, I had to reset the uVerse box every single time, or the picture would simply flash between HD and non-Hd mode, with the telltale sign being the HD light flashing on the uVerse box. I had never once had to reset the uVerse box for this reason prior to the day I got the Sharp and I had two other HD sets using that box previousely. It takes about 4-5 minutes for the box to reset so it was a pain. So, I did some basic troubleshooting. I tried another HDMI cable, changed inputs, etc to no avail. I then noticed that if I simply left the HDMI cable unplugged when I reset the box the HD light stayed solid, but if I then plugged in the HDMI cable (with TV off) the HD light immediately began blinking. This in conjuction with the other evidence led me to strongly believe the issue lied with the TV.I started a chat session with a Sharp Tech. He immediately said he had seen it before and had a solution. First he wanted me to make a setting change, and then he wanted me to update the firmware via a flash drive. I did both. I turned the TV off, waited about 10 seconds, turned the TV on and all was well. However, I soon discovered that the problem only occurs if the TV is off for at least 30 seconds or so. So, the issue persisted for several days longer, and it happened every single time. If I wanted to watch TV, I had to reset the uVerse box without fail.I called Sharp support this time. I explained and began to outline all of the above. The agent I spoke with was short, curt, certainly not very friendly, and borderline rude. He immediately blamed uVerse or the box, cutting me off before I could even finish the explanation and the other troubleshooting I had done. I told him the other tech had said he had seen this and acknowledged it was an issue with this TV, but he would have none of it and basically laughed it off. I told him (true) that I have both sold TV's and worked with electronics for 25 years, and I am currently a computer tech with a high level of technical knowledge and he basically laughed and was condensending. He said, well the TV can only show the signal it's given, and if your HD is going in and out, that is the box and it's not our problem. So, I told him I didn't care for his whole attitude, that I didn't have time to be wasting calling AT&T and I was at least hoping for a "we're working on it" type attitude, but that with that type of response I would simply return the TV and get another brand. I called, and exchanged the Sharp for a Sony LED style 60" set. Yes, it was $900 more, but I didn't want my money going to Sharp at that point. I am not here to review the Sony other than to say that the picture is significantly better, better and deeper blacks, berrter contrast and color and a more matter screen with virtually no reflection. Watching a movie on this new Sony 60" beauty is breathtaking. In any case, the new Sony came about a week later. I put the same HDMI cable in and lo and behold it was fine. That was 2 weeks ago, and I have not had to reset the uVerse box one single time since receiving the Sony, nor had to do it one single time on the two TV's prior to the Sharp. So, let's see Sharp. Four TV's - One uVerse box. Every single time I turned on the Sharp the box had to be reset. No other single time did the box need to be reset for that reason on the other three TV's. You still want to have the attitude that you don't have a problem with the TV? Pound sand Sharp. Your attitude lost you a customer for life.

3Very pretty picture, some of the time.
By Andy Dopieralski
The UN46B8000 is a very good display if space is an issue. However, it is not exactly what I was expecting. The store display I had seen was in open light and the display was connected to a Samsung BluRay player. This appears to be the key, as the display has some proprietary processing enabled for Samsung players. The 240Hz conversion gave the picture an odd life-like quality and I really liked it for CGI films. I figured that would translate well to games and I was tired of the poor black performance on my Aquos, so I picked up the set. A couple of things - first, even though this is touted as LED technology keep in mind that's only for the backlight. The display tech is still LCD. You're not getting per-pixel illumination. You're getting edge-mounted backlighting supplied by LEDs. Second, the set is very laggy. The video has about a 150ms lag when all of the upscaling is turned off and 'game mode' is enabled to reduce lag. In full processing mode (240Hz, dynamic contrast, etc) the lag is over 500ms. If you don't have a Samsung DVD player(which seems to correct it), this translates to noticable lag in video behind the audio track. Extremely annoying. And half a second makes playing games with any optimizations completely worthless. Lastly, the backlighting is blotchy in pure black situations with low ambient lighting. You don't notice it much in normal store/room lighting, but when you turn out the lights the backlight produces soft 'clouds' of grey shift through a solid black field. There are some hot spots around the edge as well, where a small amount of light bleed occurs. The display has a decent number of inputs, especially considering its size. Four HDMI, a component, and a VGA. The lack of a dedicated DVI was surprising, but the first HDMI port doubles as a DVI with a converter (all ports will work with HDPC compliant DVI outputs, but only the first port can handle a standard DVI-I/DVI-D signal from a non-HDPC source).A word about signal range - this display is very strict when it comes to valid source. A receiver that gave me perfect performance at 1080p with my Aquos produces an invalid signal error with this display. A cheaper HDMI cable I was using for my PS3 produced nothing but static on the screen. I had to go get an official PS3 cable to get a correct 1080p display. My ZuneHD dock will NOT display at 720p, regardless of what I've tried. It works fine on other displays, but the Samsung won't sync the signal. Very frustrating. The extra features of the set may appeal to some, but I have no need for a terribly slow media streming service built into my set. Any dedicated media streaming station or game console is going to outperform the in-set features for DivX playback. The widgets were just a bad idea. I have a 50Mbps internet connection and they still take forever to load. They aren't really useful and 'typing' with the remote is an exercise in self loathing.Aesthetically, the set is incredible. The ultra-thin bezel is a thing of beauty. Glossy in the right places and stylish. You will most likely want to turn off the blue LED on the front of the set though, as it glows so bright it is a major distraction in low light situations. This is easily accomplished through the setup menu. The remote is a mixed bag. Most people buying a set at this price point will probably have a universal anyway, but some may not. Samsung even recognizes that their remote is overly cumbersome and they include a second 'mini' remote for basic volume/channel/source features. The main remote has a motion sensor in it so whenever the slightest vibration occurs (such as a bass-heavy moment in a movie) it lights up. Getting up to get a snack? It lights up. Did your cat rub up against your coffee table? It lights up. The actual controls are pretty standard. There's an iPod style jog wheel for navigating menus, but you'll probably give up the poor performance of the circular motion for standard four point clicking. This leads to misinterpretation of your input sometimes, since the wheel will move slightly when clicking on the four points and the selector on screen will move as a result. I would have perferred a simple arrow interface. Part of the problem may be due to the fact that the menus are very laggy. Most operations on the display seem to be.I can't rate the audio because I don't use the built-in speakers. Given the size of the set, I can't imagine them being very good at anything but high to high-mid range. But I can't say for certain.Final verdict- If space or wow-factor are an issue, then this set certainly fits the bill if you can't set up a high end projector. The blacks are decent and there are plenty of inputs. There are minor issues around the backlighting in low-light environments and it is not the best set for video gaming because of the lag. If you have a Samsung BluRay player you will get the most benefit out of this display. Other players will display noticable lag when some of the 'wow' features are turned on. If I had it to do over, I probably wouldn't at this price point, but if some of the plusses are what you're looking for it's probably worth it. *** out of *****.

4Picture clarity is stunning with Digital or HD
By BJL411
I only gave this 4 stars because 5 stars represents "perfect" to me, and I doubt any product out there made is "perfect".First of all I like most am not rich and this kind of money for a tv is insane. But if you've decided to upgrade your older lcd (or) finallys witch from your crt, and you were planning to try and spend around $1000 or $1200 tops, I'd really suggest you wait, if it takes 6 months, wait, and save enough money for a great tv like this.I searched online for the best reviewed tv's in the price range I could afford, and like most of you I wandered into the tv section of Walmart and other stores to see the screen definition and prices of various tv's out there. I decided if I'm going to make this expensive transition I'm going to wait a few months until I could get the tv I really wanted. Well I finally have my un46B8000 and find myself watching commercials cuz they look so cool !First of all I am a long time user of Tivo. Mine was the standard digital 2 drive version so I decided to upgrade and order the new XL HD tivo. In the week while I waited for it's delivery, I was watching my usual cable digital channels on this new tv. It's IMPORTANT to note that the digital picture is just stunning on this tv... without the HD channels. Shows look oddly different, like many yrs ago when they switched to video taping our nightly comedy shows instead of filming them.... and I remember how odd the picture looked in video.. it was unusually clear and realistic... Well I'm experiencing that again with this new tv.. Just watching Two and a Half Men, the new picture clarity baffles and stuns me! it's like watching a whole new program! and digital commercials, I actually find myself rewinding to watch them! it's just odd !!The color intensity and clarity are stunning and THERE IS NO DAMN HUM !!!Also I find the speakers quite adequate though I'm hooking up the new Samsung soundbar (with blu-ray) to this tv today... but the speaker quality of this tv doesn't bother me at all. Plus you can fine tune the sound to your liking.Setup is easy especially with an HDMI cable - one cable! (depending on your setup). For me it's the normal cable out of the wall into my Tivo, then the HDMI cable out from my TIVO and into the back of the TV, and wah-lah.. it's done. (Only the HD TIVO's have the HDMI connector).CONS: the directions, the booklet and the website suck - Most of us have hooked electronics up before so you can figure it out but if you're a beginner.. good luck with that! There's no excuse for the lack of info in the huge booklet and the Samsung website - there is more info on this amazon.com page above about this tv than there is in the book (or) on Samsung's site.CONS: I don't like the remote, glad I have my great Tivo remote. ex: if you want to adjust the color saturation, you'd like to see the picture on screen while you're doing it so you know how much to adjust it.. but sadly this stupid remote and tv have this big pop up screen that blocks the entire tv picture while your making your settings! so dumb- I find myself making a setting then clicking "exit" so I can view my change, then go back into the "menu" several times to set/change it some more. This is a minor issue I guess because once you have your chosen settings you'll rarely fix it again, but still it's a dumb setup. My remote also skips around on that menu screen without me clicking anything.. (a flaw in mine or all of them?) again not a big deal once it's setup but it skips around badly..PROS: In the menu there are 4 choices for a picture to choose from, "Dynamic", "Standard", "Natural", and "Movie". The pro here is that those could simply be called 1-2-3-4 instead because once you choose one of those above, you can scroll down and change what they are. Meaning you can scroll down and change the color saturation, tint, contrast, etc for each of those items. My tv is in a very bright room so I set one setting (standard) for day viewing and made a darker screen choice (natural) for night time, which is more soothing to my eyes. Some of the menu settings may confuse you but you need to just play with it, curse a little, and you'll figure it out.PROS: there is a "backlight" setting which I am amazed I can keep rather low. My tv is in a very bright room, approx 12' from a 8'x8' patio door where I let lots of light in for my indoor plants everyday.. I am stunned how well I can see this tv in this bright light WITHOUT changing to any bright setting. This bright room was the main reason I hesitated for so long from upgrading my tv because I was worried this bright room would be too much for a new lcd (or plasma).. well this tv is amazing in a light environment.CONS: again the remote - some shows you are still watching in 4:3 ratio mode (old square screen), otherwide the picture looks too stretched out. Then there are shows that are easily viewed in 16:9 (wide screen). You need to go all the way into the menu to change this setting if you want a dif screen for dif tv shows, (click "menu" then "Mode" then scroll down to "Picture Options" then choose "size") --- it's insane to have to go through all that to change the screen/picture size. Again, my award winning tivo remote (!!) has this feature as one of it's buttons easily accessed right on the remote .. just click "aspect" and I can change the aspect ratio of any program I'm watching.. But for those of you with just this tv's remote, you'll need to go through all those steps I listed above to keep changing the aspect ratio - annoying! (Their remote and "menu" are a big reason I couldn't give this tv 5 stars)PROS: the tv is light weight enough I could lift it. The base which you must attach is as heavy as the tv it seemed, but it all looks stunning once set up.CONS: price - ridiculous! I found it elsewhere and saved $300 off Amazon's price. I use Amazon to buy lots of items of all types but for something like this I searched google and ebay for a better price (and found it on ebay). Be sure to consider delivery costs (and tax where applicable) when choosing where to buy it.PROS: thin beyond beliefPROS: blacks are so black that even on a limited black setting, the screen edges (when watching 4:3 ration) are as black as the actual tv frame..PROS: it's a nice looking tv. chrome base with a thick glass stem leading up to the tv. A bright, deep, flourescent blue light shows at the bottom when the tv is turned on - pleasing to the eye.. oh and the tv hums a slight tune when you turn it off and on!PROS: I have no glare problems in this bright room next to this huge patio door.CONS: You really do need to be almost dead center when watching this tv for the best picturePROS: The swivel stand is very helpful to put you dead center for viewing. (Although I'm usually approx 3' off dead center (to the side), approx 10'-12' distance from the tv, and the pic is still spectacular).CONS: there is no S connection on the back (if you need one) and the other connections are setup squashed into a side panel.. not the easiest to connect and some thicker connectors may not work on this tv (as mentioned in this indepth review below)[...]That article (above) is the most indepth info I found on this tv before I bought it.One last thing. With the new HD Tivo's you need to get rid of the cable box and use cable cards. When the cable guy came out yesterday he had been installing cable cards (in new Tivo's) all morning. When he came in and first viewed my tv which was turned on, after spending all morning in front of other people's lcd/plasma tv's all morning, he took one look at my tv picture and simply said, "wow". That was his first impression walking up to it and seeing it's clear picture! (and keep in mind it was still on a regular cable digital picture, not HDMI yet). So basically, after seeing all those other tv's all morning in everyone else's home.. he was blown away by my new Samsung UN46B8000 ! So there! I have bragging rights! lol.So when watching HD channels or your digital channels you should be very pleased with this tv.46" is a pretty big tv imo. This old lady loves NFL and watching Brett Favre and Eli Manning has been great on this new LED LCD tv. The 2 ms response time is impressive, the color intensity is indescribable, the clarity, and the contrast is spectacular when watching football. You will need to go into your menu settings and tweak all these features to your liking (sound, contrast, tint, color, black levels, backlight, sharpness, etc.)[...]

5very nice
By Bryan Piereson
Consumer Reports has not rated this set yet. Their current top rated set is the samsung ln650, which although good, has minor flaws, such as "3-ball effect" (tennis and football), varying shade of green on football fields when comparing line of scrimmage versus either side, and some smudginess.I see none of that with UN46B8000 that I bought last week. Fast motion is excellent. White is white, black is black, and reds and blues are beautiful. Clarity is excellent. Once in a while I've seen intense yellows and greens where I've wondered if it was an accurate depiction, but I've not made any adjustments yet. But, it's hard to get all these qualities, especially whites, in plasma. I'm not a professional, just my observations based on a few months of shopping. My opinion is that plasma has lost it's advantage, especially if you consider power consumption. Plasmas only advantage now is price, but that should change over time. The only problem with the un46b800 I've had is that occasionally the backlight setting jumps up. I think c/net mentioned this. Still, I'm very satisfied with this set.

3Good TV but very clumsy "Smart" features & interface
By Michael Sandman
The LG LS5700 is an OK TV. If I could, I'd give it 2-1/2 stars. The LS5700's selling point is supposed to be the "smart" features that let you connect to the Internet, get content from Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. and share content from other devices in your network. It does have a nice crisp HD picture after you tweak the color settings, and so-so sound, as expected. But if that's all you want in a TV there are less expensive alternatives. Unfortunately, the interface for using the "smart TV" features is very clumsy. And although the manual does a good job of showing how to connect the TV, it has almost nothing on how to use the "smart" features. The built-in menus are supposed to do that. The on-screen menus and LG's online support are minimal at best, and just plain wrong in one case (see below). On the plus side, the TV connected easily to my home network, using either WiFi or an Ethernet cable. And the "smart" features do work, if you can stand the interface However, this is TV is not the user-friendly web-integrated TV I was hoping for. That's still some time in the future. The TV includes a remote that's used to access the "smart" features and also to set up the TV, connect to your WiFi network, etc. It has sort of an air mouse pointer that shows up on the screen. When you use features that require entering text, there's an on-screen QWERTY keyboard that you click on with the remote control's pointer. Using the on-screen keyboard is just plain horrible. It's very slow and the remote's pointer is slow and somewhat jerky. If you get into the TV's setup menu you can change the pointer's setting to "fast", which helps a bit, but the on-screen keyboard is hopeless. It's not mentioned in the manual, but you can attach a wireless keyboard through a USB port. That lets you enter text more easily than you can with the on-screen keyboard. But the wireless mouse that pairs with my new wireless keyboard doesn't work. LG tech support says the set can take only one user input even though there are three USB ports. (They responded very quickly -- within hours -- to their credit.) So you have to use the remote control to do the pointing. What this TV really needs is a remote with a decent pointer and a little pull-out keyboard or a keyboard on the back. Samsung, Sony and Viszio (among others) do that; I would have been a lot happier with the set if LG did the same thing. There's an iPhone app from LG that could (in theory) make the interface better. It's supposed to allow you to control the TV from an iPhone. The app doesn't have a keyboard, according to reviews on iTunes, so it's not perfect. Far worse, although the LG web site specifically mentions that the LS5700 series is compatible with the app, the app doesn't work with this model. This was confirmed by LG tech support, and the app's information tab has a list of supported models includes the LW5700 series, but not the LS5700 series. To access music, photos or video on your home network using the DLNA capability, you need to download an application from the LG website to your computer. The TV's setup menu does mention that you need to have media sharing software, but you have to dig deeply into the on-screen menus to find out.Perhaps LG intends to update the iPhone app, or the set's firmware, or offer a compatible remote with a keyboard and a better pointer. But until then, avoid this model if you want easy-to-use "smart TV" features. The interface on this set is not ready for prime time. (EDITED 3-30-2012)

4Good "smart" HDTV
By Elizabeth
This was not only my first HDTV purchase ever, but my first TV purchase, period. I'd managed to live with hand-me-down and garage-sale TVs up til now, but I decided I wanted something nice for a change. I don't subscribe to cable or satellite television, so I wanted something that had some built-in "smart" capabilities. I also wanted something that wasn't going to break the bank. I really dislike 3D content, so I decidedly did NOT want a 3D TV. Finding a nice TV that has smart features and *isn't* 3D is getting harder and harder. For the most part, this TV has fit the bill, and I've been happy with my purchase.I thought about putting together a list of pros and cons, but that didn't really seem to work too well with this particular review, so I've listed some general notes below:-- PICTURE QUALITYIn a word, excellent. Granted, I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but it's one of the best I've seen. Blacks are good, as are whites. Images are nice and crisp when viewing HD content.-- TURNING OFF TRUMOTIONThe one thing that gave me a real headache with this TV was figuring out how to turn off the TruMotion setting. I know some people are really jazzed about the 120 Hz view and the lack of motion blur, but to me, it made everything look like I was watching a soap opera. (Don't know what I'm talking about? Google "soap opera effect.")So I turned it off. That was easy enough: Settings -->' Picture '--> Picture Option '--> TruMotion '--> OFF. There, fixed! Or so I thought. It fixed it for the TV input. But then I started watching something on Netflix (via the app on the TV), and the dreaded soap-opera effect was back!It took me several days of online searching and talking to friends before I figured out that you have to REPEAT THIS process for EVERY SINGLE INPUT. (e.g. Input '--> HDMI 1 -->' Settings '--> Picture '--> Picture Settings '--> TruMotion '--> OFF.) And for the built-in apps, like Netflix, you have to start a video, then go the QMENU -->' Set Video -->' Picture Option '--> TruMotion -->' OFF.Once you've set it for each input and app, though, it does stay defaulted to that. So at least you only have to do it once, not every time you start a new video. I found no online documentation ANYWHERE that specified this, though, so I thought it was definitely worth mentioning in this review. Hopefully it will help someone else.-- SOUND QUALITYNot as great, though not as bad as some flat-panels I've heard. You can turn it up as loud as you want, but after about the half-way point on the volume scale, there's not much difference. It's the same way with my parents' LG HDTV, which is a few years old. I solved this problem by hooking up an external home stereo system (Sony BRAVIA DAV-DZ170 Home Theater System) and bypassing the TV's built-in audio altogether.-- "SMART" FEATURESThe "smart" features were one of the selling points for me. When it comes down to it, though, I only really use 2 of them - Netflix and Hulu Plus. Some of the reviews (and comments on reviews) suggested that this unit might have an Amazon Instant Video app. It does not. Let me repeat: THIS TV DOES NOT HAVE AN AMAZON INSTANT VIDEO APP. And from what I can tell from various sources online, it never will. No idea why, since there are other LG HDTVs that do. This one just isn't one of them. One user suggested that it just required a firmware update. My firmware is up to date, and there is still no Amazon app. Sorry, people. It just doesn't exist. The "premium" apps this TV comes with (or at least, the ones mine came with) are:-- Vudu-- Hulu Plus-- MOG-- AccuWeather.com-- MLB.TV-- Netflix-- CinemaNow-- YouTube-- NHL-- vTuner-- Associated Press-- Facebook-- Picasa-- Google Maps-- Twitter-- ViewsterThe LG app store is a joke. Forget finding anything you would ever want, much less be willing to pay for, in that store. The online browser is also a joke. If you have to view a website on your TV (e.g. a network television website or Amazon Instant, etc. to view a video), your best bet is to hook up a computer via HDMI. Don't bother trying to do it with the built-in browser. It may work, but it won't work well, and it will be a painful experience. Trust me, I tried. The YouTube app is pretty weak. It works, but it's less user-friendly than even the mobile YouTube website. Good luck finding anything specific. The Netflix and Hulu Plus apps work well enough. They're not as user-friendly to navigate through as their respective websites, but that's to be expected, and I've found that it's easy enough just to queue up things on the computer first, and then play them from the TV apps. That saves you a lot of annoying "typing" with the magic remote.I haven't tried any of the others. I see absolutely no reason why I would want to view Google maps, Associated Press content, Twitter or Facebook on my TV. I don't watch sports, so the MLB.TV and NHL apps are of no use to me. I have no idea how well they work. I'm a pretty loyal Pandora user, so I haven't tried MOG. I just plug in my iPhone to my stereo system when I want to listen to music.-- SMART SHAREIt works, but it's not very user-friendly, in my experience. I was able to connect my Win7 laptop to the TV without much difficulty, but it's virtually impossible to search for a particular song or album or artist via the Smart Share interface - browsing seems to be the only option, and that can be a real pain when you have a LOT of music/videos/etc. to scroll through.Streaming music seems to work just fine, but streaming video resulted in a lot of lag, and I've got a great WiFi network set up here. Anything over about 480p just doesn't really stream well on this TV, in my experience. It also seems to lock up the TV frequently, requiring you to turn it off and on again before you can do anything.-- THE "MAGIC" REMOTEMany people have complained that this thing is annoying. I don't have a problem with it. It's like a Wii remote: you wave it around, and the cursor on screen follows your movement. There aren't a lot of buttons on it, though - volume up/down, channel up/down, Home (which takes you to the main app/input selection screen), Back (which exits out of the screen you're in), a scroll wheel that serves as channel up/down when you scroll and an "enter/select" key when you press it, a Help button, and an Input button.Since I don't have cable TV, I don't have a lot of channels to scroll through when I'm watching actual television, so the lack of a number pad doesn't bother me. But I would find it annoying to have to use a different remote or manage to figure out how to bring up the on-screen number pad if I had hundreds of channels at my disposal and wanted to go to a particular channel instead of just scrolling through them all.The remote sometimes takes a moment to register, too. I've found that you have to wave it around for a second or two before the TV realizes you want to do something and brings up the cursor. I frequently have to recalibrate it, too, by waving it around in a figure-eight motion, to get it to actually recognize my motions.-- SIMPhttp://amzn.com/dp/B006ZH0K2K/?tag={komponelektr-20}Works nicely. It was pretty easy to hook up my home theater system so that it turns on and off automatically with the TV.-- THE INPUTSThe inputs all seem fine, and they're plentiful. I don't have that many devices that needed connecting - a DVD player/home theater system and occasionally my laptop (when I want to watch something on Amazon Instant Video or something on another website). It's easy to swap between inputs.-- THE OUTPUTSIt's a little annoying that this TV only supports digital optical audio out, with no other analog options, but I guess it's not really unexpected, given the cost of the system. It hasn't posed a problem for me, but it's something to be aware of if you have an older stereo system that doesn't support that kind of input.-- THE PHYSICAL STRUCTURE OF THE UNITI was actually pretty impressed with this. I'd heard horror stories about how unstable and top-heavy HDTVs could be. I bought the 42" and have it mounted on the stand that came with it. It feels pretty sturdy to me. I have cats who seem to think the space between the back of the TV and the wall is the perfect hiding place, and while I definitely do not approve of them being back there (and make them move every time I witness it), they haven't even nudged it.The swivel feature is also useful, since I have it positioned at one angle when I'm watching alone, but want it angled more to the left when there are more people watching, due to the position of my sofa. Swiveling the TV on the stand doesn't feel unstable at all, which I was a little worried about initially.-- PRICEThe price on this unit is excellent. You won't find a lower price anywhere, and if you do - even if it's after you've already made your purchase (as long as it's within 14 days of delivery) - Amazon will honor it, per their "TV Low Price Guarantee" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200556860). I purchased this unit at $749, and by the time it shipped, the Amazon price was already $20 lower. They reimbursed me the difference, which was really nice. I see now it's even cheaper. While there are some quirks with the system, this is an unbeatable price for a great TV.

4"magic remote" is pretty annoying
By kuznetsov
"Magic remote" is pretty annoying. TV itself seems to be good - reasonable sound, reasonable image. I decided to buy this model because of good viewing angle range and better than average sound. I do not care much about the 3D features that manufacturers are promoting. Please note - the "magic remote" was the only one provided. IMHO this is one of those occasions when being cute and creative trumped being useful. I really wish I would have a more traditional remote together with this TV. Changing options and settings is not very easy.

5Beautiful TV with a cool remote
By GKCMilner
I have been using my TV for about 4-days now. I know Amazon has a separate shipping/packaging review area so I won't let what happened reflect on this rating, but I do want to mention that the TV was shipped in the store box with no additional packaging or protection. The first TV arrived with a cracked screen, but Amazon overnighted another TV (packed the same way) and it arrived OK.I bought this TV based on my experience testing one at a local electronics store. I was really impressed with the 3D quality using passive glasses which was a requirement for me (I did not want active shutter); I also really liked the remote. I found it super easy to type in the search fields and to make on-screen selections. It's very accurate and easy to use. And since the TV also has an IR receiver I was also able to add the TV to my Logitech Harmony 880 remote as well.It has taken some time learning how to use all the TV features correctly because the owner's manual is weak, which is probably my biggest complaint. It took me a while to figure out what all the 3D setup options were and what all the selections were for. The on-screen interface is very cool and super easy to navigate; especially with the magic remote. The only thing lacking that I wish it had is Pandora radio. There must be some legal reason because when I use the TVs web browser and go to Pandora.com there is no audio. IN LG SmartTV there are a lot of free apps, including some cool 3D programing.Picture quality is great with plenty of brightness. I was impressed that it was to my liking right out of the box. There is a short setup process when you first turn it on that lets you turn the energy saving feature on/off (I chose off) and if the TV is in a store/home (I chose home). It has no more or less light bleeding than any other LED TV I sampled, and has no light leakage. My Samsung had a more even backlighting, but that is only noticeable when it's a black screen; and seems to be a problem with a lot of LED TVs (all the ones I looked at anyway. One thing I would like to point out is that I seem to get the best 3D experience when the room is completely dark. I normally watch TV with a soft light behind the TV, but I now turn it off when I'm watching 3D. Glare also really impacts the 3D quality. To top all of this off, the TV is one of the most beautiful sets on the market. I replaced a 40" Samsung LCD, and I was worried that this 47" might be too big in the same space; but because it is almost frameless it is only 1" wider (the Samsung had a distracting thick, high gloss frame). It has a sleek modern design with brushed metal accents. The stand is a very heavy plastic with a matching brushed metal finish.All-in-all I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I feel I got a great price and I love the package deal from Amazon that included LG AG-F216 Cinema 3D Glasses Family Pack (6-Pairs) for 2011 LG 3D LED-LCD HDTVs and the LG NB3520A 300W Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer.***UPDATE***After using it a bit more I wanted to add a couple things:The light bleeding I mentioned earlier is only noticible on the initial startup splash screen where the LG logo is on a black background. Once the TV warms up there is almost no noticable light bleed on dark scenes. I am very happy with this. When watching a movie from a flash drive, the play, pause, forward, rewind, buttons on my Harmony remote don't do anything. I have to use the magic remote. We watched the Immortals in 3D and the effects were nothing short of amazing. We are so happy with this TV.***UPDATE 2***If internet access and Apps are important to you, you might be disappointed. To me the LG Smart TV Apps are pretty much worthless. I like Netflix, Amazon VOD, Pandora Radio, iHeart Radio, and Slacker Radio. The only one that this TV has is Netflix (it does work well). The TV has a decent web browser, but when I go to any of the radio websites they block the sound. Navigating Amazon Prime VOD is just a terrible experience and not worth the effort. I will be connecting my Logitech Review back to the TV. Bottom-line: Great hardware, disappointing web connectivity. If this were a 10-star rating system I'd give the TV an 8.5The 3D really impresses.

5Smart, and Easy to Use
By Rex Kullmann
This handsome TV features a thin bezel and modern look, ease of use with attractive menus and very good picture quality.Set UpLike all other flat panel TVs, once you unbox the set, you'll need to assemble and attach the stand. LG's stand seems a little flimsy. There's some give when you touch the TV and the manual gives specific instructions on where you should grab the TV when you pivot it on the stand. I've had no problems, but a more substantial feel would be comforting. When you first turn on the TV, it takes you through a few easy steps to set it up. Pairing with the remote, joining your wi-fi network, choosing your energy saving preferences and the like. My TV also found a software update once it was connected to my wi-fi and prompted me to upgrade. Easy.Performance and The FlawI'm a TV production veteran of many years. I'm really picky about picture quality in some respects, but don't care a bit about some of the things some TV reviewers seem obsessed about. What you can see with test signals isn't very important. What matters, in my humble opinion, is what you are seeing when you sit down to watch. Are you watching the movie or watching how your TV performs? The LG's picture quality is very good, but there's one Flaw that takes me out of the moment and makes me pay attention to the TV.The LG 6700 uses LED edge lighting. It results in splotchy light leaks around the perimeter of the screen. The Flaw is visible during dark scenes and in a darkened viewing room. How bad is it? It's invisible 99% of the time, but when the movie ends and the credits come up, there's those glowing globs around the edges. When the hero goes into the haunted house with a flashlight, there's those ghosts all around him. Turning on the Energy Saver feature, which reduces the backlight when the room is dark, lessens The Flaw somewhat. It's pretty easy to overlook The Flaw since the LG has a great picture otherwise. Good, well saturated color, plenty of contrast and good brightness. 3D performance is stunning. If you want to change something, you'll find every adjustment you can think of in the settings menu. So overall, I rate the LG's picture very good despite The Flaw. This LG is one of the many new TVs that use glossy screens. Glossy screens give a more vivid and colorful picture than non-glossy screens, but at a cost. They are much more reflective. Is a glossy screen for you? Pretend your TV screen is a mirror. If you're sitting on your sofa looking at that mirror, would you see a strong light source, like an unshaded lamp or a window? If so, you'll prefer a TV with a non-glossy screen. This LG's audio performance is mediocre. There is an EQ built-in the settings menu, but using it to boost the bass makes little difference. The speakers just can't reproduce it. While the audio is fine for dialog, I think LG assumes you'll use a sound system if you care about fidelity.3DThe LG uses passive 3D glasses. They produce a good 3D viewing experience and have an advantage over active shutter glasses in that they are much cheaper to buy, don't use batteries, and are universal among brands. Next time you see a Real D 3D movie in the theatre, hang on to your glasses. They work fine with this TV. You get 6 pair of 3D glasses with this LG. Your local Best Buy carries additional glasses from LG and Real D including kid sizes and clip-ons and high-priced premium stylish ones. Here's the part of the review where I expected to dismiss the 2D to 3D feature. The LG, like many new BluRay players, will synthesize 3D from regular 2D content. Darned if it doesn't work pretty well. It's not as good as real 3D, of course, and you probably won't use it that much. (Are you going to start watching CNN in 3D every night?) But for a few choice programs, it's surprisingly good. There's a button on the remote that toggles 3D on and off with one button press. All in all, LG has done everything possible to make 3D simple to enjoy with a minimum of fuss. Push the 3D button, put on the glasses and eat your popcorn.Smart TVThis TV has apps, just like your smart phone. There is no longer a menu where you adjust picture and sound settings. There's an app that does that. There are apps to switch inputs, search for available video you can download, browse the internet, turn 3D on and off, display media from your smart phone or computer, display the user's manual and on and on. 21 apps come preloaded on the LG, and you can download more. Most of those are gateways to other content, including a lot of children's programming. Most are free. You can get to the apps you've installed through the My Apps menu, or through the home screen which also has a "Premium" menu where you'll find Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more. The "3D World" menu has a number of streamable 3D programs. Most menu screens keep the program you were watching when you entered the home screen boxed in the upper left corner. You can select it to close the menu and return to your program.LG's operating system seems rock solid, but some of the apps are buggy. The internet browser, for instance, seems impressive at first with tabbed browsing and flash installed. But some websites will lock it up, even to the point where it's difficult to make the browser quit. And while flash is present, using it will bring a warning that you're using an old version and it won't be supported for long. Another app, AccuWeather, gave me a face full of error messages when I tried to add Fort Lauderdale to my favorite cities.Still, LG has sent out at least one update since my set was built, so there's reason to believe the bugs will get squished eventually.Media Link allows you--theoretically--to view your computer's media files on the LG's screen. It requires a third party app, Plex, to be installed on your computer. I have a MacBook, and the Apple version of Plex crashed immediately when I launched it. No Media Link for me!The RemoteLG has gone its own way with the remote control. Instead of a wand with a zillion buttons, you get a wand with a few buttons that works like a Wii controller. You wave it in the air to move a cursor on the screen. It's clever, but I have gripes.First of all, the buttons are mostly surfaces flush with the face of the remote. Also, there is no light or glow-in-the-dark lettering on the remote, so when it's dark, you're left to fumble about on a seemingly featureless wand. I don't know how many times I've moved the cursor over the icon I want, then pressed the button only to have the muting come on. That's the button directly below the select button. While you're waving the remote around, it stays on. When you're still for a few seconds, the remote turns off. So if you're perusing the menus and pause to read something, the cursor will disappear and you'll have to shake the remote to get it back. When this happens over and over, it gets annoying. Also, if you take a swig of your drink, then bump the remote when you put down your glass, a big red cursor pops up on the screen to spoil the mood your movie was trying to build. While I struggle with this remote, everyone else in my household like it. Pointing at icons on a big screen is much better for them than searching for the right button on a crowded remote. Ordinarily, I put the original remote away and just use my universal remote. Not this time. Everyone but me wants the LG remote. It stays on the coffee table. But I'm not out of luck.Even though the LG remote is an RF remote, the TV accepts IR signals, so my universal remote will work with it. Well, up to a point. I can navigate using arrow keys, but there is no button to call up the "home" or "My Apps" menu. The upshot is that I'll be able to do all the non-smart functions with the universal remote, but apps and on-line content will require the LG remote. The Bottom LineThe LG is a smart, easy-to-use TV with a lot of really cool features. Picture quality is very good and highly adjustable. Plus it's a handsome piece of hardware with its thin frame and nearly all-glass face. Yes, I have a few gripes, but there were plenty of cool surprises to offset them. Five stars.

4Overall good product, minor flaws
By koty183
I can't say for the speakers on this set (I use an external system and the built in ones have never been used), so other people talking about it being muffled, I can't say. What I can say is the picture quality is wonderful. This TV is light, good quality picture, Passive 3D (big for me), and has no noticeable delay when gaming. Some problems, to get the PQ so good, they went with a glossy screen (seems to be somewhat the norm now) and this causes some reflections, but nothing too bad.The remote took some getting used to, but I have a universal remote if I just need to switch inputs. The remote it comes with is great in my opinion for navigating the menus and store, etc. It does a good job.One minor annoyance, if you move the remote a bit (move the table it's on, drop it, knock it off the couch, etc) it makes the cursor appear for a few seconds. This happened when watching netflix, but nothing too bad.The reason I gave it 4 stars is the netflix and hulu apps work well, but have this weird glitch that would happen every 5 minutes where it looks like it just panics and shows a lot of random cached pixels. I'm hoping this is a software issue that can be fixed.
